BREAKING NEWS – Tyreek Hill Detained on this opening weekend of the NFL season. One of the fastest men and high-profile players in the NFL is now on the field after he was pulled over by police and briefly detained this morning. A video shows officers putting Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill in handcuffs just steps away from Hard Rock Stadium, where he was heading to play in the team’s home opener. The team says Hill was pulled over for a reported traffic incident.
What we know so far: Hill was involved in a police stop, and the situation escalated. These images are quite extraordinary when you consider the stature of Tyreek Hill and how he’s regarded within the league and certainly within Miami.
“Here’s what Tyreek Hill’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, had to say about the incident: ‘Apparently, he got a ticket for a moving violation while entering the stadium. How things escalated to the point of being handcuffed and held on the ground by police is mind-boggling to me. I’m deeply concerned and troubled by this. We’ll be looking into it and conducting a thorough investigation.'”
Rosenhaus says his client is physically okay but mentally distraught and is currently focusing on the game. Hill is playing in the game against Jacksonville, and so far, he has caught three passes.
Within the last few minutes, the Miami-Dade Police Department released a statement, saying: “We are aware of the recent detainment of Miami Dolphins player Tyreek Hill by Miami-Dade Police Department officers. I have requested an immediate review of all details surrounding the incident, and we are also reviewing available body camera footage. We will provide updates as further information becomes available.”
Body camera footage, along with possible video footage from bystanders, is being reviewed. There is a report of one clip showing a police officer kicking Tyreek Hill while he was in handcuffs.
This is a man who won the Super Bowl with the Kansas City Chiefs and is now starting his third season with the Miami Dolphins. Last season, Hill was statistically the top receiver in the league, making this incident even more significant. We’ll be hearing a lot more about it in the coming days.
This situation brings to mind a similar incident with golfer Scottie Scheffler, who was detained by police on his way to a major tournament earlier this year. He was taken to the police station, booked, and eventually cleared of all charges, going on to have a phenomenal season.
As of now, Tyreek Hill is playing in the game, but the events leading up to this detainment remain unclear. His agent has called it a moving violation, and it all occurred right outside the stadium. The investigation will likely continue as more details emerge.
